We are expected to give our best to ensure that people live in peace,” he said, speaking to The Hindu soon after becoming the DGP of A.P.
“With honesty, sincerity and a combined effort, we can tackle problems and usher in peace by fighting extremists with optimal utilisation of resources,” he asserted. Liberal candidate Indira Naidoo-Harris wins Halton in Ontario election

Liberal candidate Indira Naidoo-Harris shattered a longstanding Conservative stronghold in Halton, beating out five-time Conservative MPP Ted Chudleigh in a race to the finish.
Naidoo-Harris had widened the gap between her and the Conservative incumbent by a margin of 3,000 votes, enough to declare her the winner.
“Welcome to my retirement party,” Chudleigh joked to a cramped Milton bar after the news broke.
The Halton riding contains voters from Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.
The riding has traditionally voted conservative, with Chudleigh holding the seat since 1995. In the last term, Chudleigh served as the opposition critic for tourism and culture as well as colleges and universities.
Naidoo-Harris, a former TV journalist, challenged Chudleigh’s winning streak again this year. Of the 58,000 votes cast in the 2011 election, Naidoo-Harris lost by 3,000 ballots.
The riding, one of the wealthiest in Ontario, was reformed in 1999 by combining part of Halton Centre with all of Halton North.
Transit was a key issue this election, with various projects currently in motion, including the Metrolinx Plan, The Big Move and the electrification of GO trains.
Chudleigh has said that a Tory majority would expand transit by uploading the service of Toronto subways and regional highways, such as the Gardiner Expressway, to Metrolinx. Naidoo-Harris’s plan included fully electric GO trains over 10 years.
Candidates were divided on a proposed super-highway that would connect the GTA to the Niagara region by cutting through the Niagara Escarpment, a valued piece of land and a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
Naidoo-Harris and NDP candidate Nik Spohr said they refused to support the project, while Chudleigh said the Conservatives would support the project but “draw the line” at encroaching on the Niagara Escarpment.
The prospect of opening a Wilfrid Laurier University satellite campus was also on the local radar. During his campaign, Chudleigh said he would ensure the years-long wait for the campus “wouldn’t get any longer.” Plans for the university have been put on hold pending approval from the province.

As a boy, one summer,  learnt to make soap from his English teacher, and sold them to his friends. The act of making and selling soaps made him believe that what he created had value. Since then, the new chief technology officer of  has proved his worth several times over - he has more than 30 publications and five patents to his credit and is a consultant, professor and author. But, as he confesses, he is still the boy who looks for constant validation.

No surprises then, his appointment as CTO of Tata Sons must have come to him as a big confirmation of his eminence in the technology world. This is the first time that the salt-to- automobile conglomerate has created the post of a group chief technology officer. As the head of the group's technology, Katragadda will be responsible for all its business at the group level and share his expertise in managing R&D operations. He would also act as an evangelist for innovation across group companies.

In the new role, the outcome of Chairman 's emphasis on R&D and innovation, Katragadda's responsibilities look huge. He will be in charge of over 100 companies with a total turnover of about $100 billion. But Tata Sons is confident it has tapped the right talent to steer the group's technological charge. "He became a natural choice given his width of experience," says a Tata Sons executive familiar with the appointment.

In his earlier role, Katragadda served as managing director of  in Bangalore.

At GE, Katragadda had earned the reputation of a champion innovator. He was picked up to head the company's largest R&D centre outside the US which has 5,500 engineers and scientists. He also served as general manager of GE Energy Infrastructure's India engineering operations, where he led a team of 2,000 employees across cities.

In his 12 years with GE's research centre in Bangalore, Katragadda built new technology teams, facilitated funding of cross-business innovation, championed the commissioning of new research labs and helped create what is today GE's largest integrated multidisciplinary R&D centre.

When not innovating, Katragadda is usually trying his hand at something new.

A self-confessed adrenaline junkie, he loves challenges.

"Be it going down unknown roads of a new city or peeling the onion of a known fact to discover a new fascinating layer, what drives me is the unknown," he says.

These days, he is busy with the promotion of his Telugu directorial debut, Tokachukka. The thriller on treasure hunters has been made by a crew of techies with no background in film-making, and was shot only during weekends. In the past, he has taken up even bigger challenges like trying to decipher the complex Indus script-not exactly a job for the faint-hearted.

Govt clears the decks for Umesh Vankayalapati's new airlines

Turbo Megha is the latest all-Hyderabad start-up that will soon be taking off from the region — very slowly and carefully though. Vankayalapati Umesh and Southern movie actor Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan are directors of Turbo Megha Airways Pvt. Ltd, which is expected to start operations from Hyderabad. Turbo Aviation Pvt. Ltd, an associate company, has two Cessna Citation aircraft and is based out of Hyderabad. It also has provided ground-handling services to domestic airlines such as Air Deccan, Air Sahara, Jet Airways (India) Ltd, Kingfisher Airlines Ltd and Go Airlines Pvt. Ltd, among others.
“Yes, Ram Charan and I have been in talks about the airline for some time now,” says Vankayalapati Umesh, Managing Director and Charan’s partner in the business. “We are bringing out the airline in a phased manner and will be sticking to leased aircrafts for the time being — Bombardier Q400s and ATRs. Later, we’ll think about flying our own aircraft,” adds Umesh.
The business is also all Hyderabadi “Ram Charan was very keen on the venture and he’s made a small investment. The others involved in the project are also from the city. We thought of keeping it tight and there’s still so much work left before the final take-off,” says Vankayalapati Umesh.
Representatives from the airline are also tight-lipped about the budget and the investment that has gone in. Ram Charan’s interests could also perhaps make him the only actor in India invested in an airline business.
“We’re not going very public with the details. It’s definitely a dream project and like I said, in aviation... you have to be careful. If done right, it can be a very successfully venture and we are making sure every step we take, is measured and correct,” concludes Umesh.

The city of Vijayawada was on Thursdsy named the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu told the assembly that the government has decided to "locate the capital at central place of the state around Vijayawada".

Naidu said the decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting September 1.

"Andhra Pradesh capital to be centrally located around Vijayawada. Will do justice to every city through decentralised development," Naidu tweeted.

The naming of a new capital for Andhra Pradesh was due on Tuesday but Naidu had junked his plans of announcing the name due to "auspicious" reasons.

So the naming was revealed on Dashami which falls on Thursday.

There was speculation that the government would declare the state capital between Vijayawada and Guntur. However, the was rejected by the Sivaramakrishnan Committee, appointed to look for a new capital.

The five-member panel headed by former Urban Development Secretary K Sivaramakrishnan had ruled in favour of Donakonda in Prakasam district, about 175 km south of Vijayawada.

But Naidu was said to be not keen on it, saying a capital cannot be created in the middle of nowhere with no airport or other facilities.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Telangana, senior leader and former minister Tummala Nageswar Rao on Saturday resigned from the party amid speculation that he might join the ruling TRS along with a few senior Kamma leaders Muvva Vijaya Babu, Chairman DCCB - Khammam and others.

"I have resigned from TDP. I cannot tell reasons now. I am not well. I cannot speak much," he said.

Tummala, however, confirmed he was in touch with TRS leaders. "They (TRS) leaders are talking to me. I have not initiated the talks," he said when asked about his political future.

A close aide of Tummala, who hails from Khammam district, said the resignation letter was sent to TDP office by fax.

Accordting to sources, Tummala has been offered ministerial berth in K. Chandrasekhar Rao's Cabinet, as TRS looks to gain further ground in the district, where it has only one MLA - Jalagam Venkata Rao - son of late chief minister Jalagam Vengala Rao.

Though Tummala did not publicly cite any reason for leaving the TDP, his growing differences with a senior party leader in the district is said to be the cause for his exit.

In the last Assembly election, Tummala lost Khammam seat to Congress candidate Puvvada Ajay Kumar by a margin of little over 6,000 votes.

He served as a minister in the N. Chandrababu Naidu Cabinet in the undivided Andhra Pradesh.

With a blend of Indian and Chinese items, Yum Stop is the food chain on wheels

The techies working at Gachibowli near Wipro have a new destination during lunch time. They walk out of their offices and head towards a yellow mobile van stationed opposite Wipro to relish hot food. It is a month since Yum Stop, the food chain on wheels has opened its doors and has been slowly but steadily building its customer base. Interestingly, it is not just during lunch, the mobile van is also seen in the morning hours providing breakfast and snacks in the evenings. For Karthik Yalamanchili, its founder and CEO, it has been an exciting endeavour as the project was ‘executed within 38 days.’ “A lot of attention to detail has been paid to impress the customers. We want to provide affordable food with focus on quality,” he says.
As one makes way to the mobile van during lunch time, software professionals are seen enjoying a quiet lunch. The menu is an interesting mix of Indian and Chinese dishes. One can enjoy hot sambar rice or dig into noodles or go for other delectable items on offer. If for breakfast, the regular items like idly, dosa, and puri among others is available, one can enjoy crispy bondas and bajjis as snacks from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. With two chefs working inside the van whipping up hot food, the food is provided in eco friendly disposable containers. For foodies wanting to watch some news while eating can do it here as a television is also attached to the van (However, TV is not functional yet).
Shashidhar Chowdary the supply chain manager of Yum Stop informs us that a mobile van stationed near Hotel Daspalla at Road No. 36 Jubilee Hills provides midnight dinner for hungry souls. “We regularly take feedback from our customers to improve our service,” he says and adds, “It is street food but our focus is hygiene. After the breakfast time, the van is washed and brought for lunch.”
The menu is also changed everyday as per the tastes. “If we make chicken 65 one day, we make chilli chicken the other day,” states Shashidhar.
Yum Stop plans to spread to IT hubs by next month.

Jasti earns GOP nod for Wayne State Board of Governors

NNO Jasti runs for WSU.jpg
Satish Jastiis one of two candidates representing the Republican Party for the office of Wayne State University Board of Governors on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

“I am proud to be on the November ballot,” said Jasti, who earned the selection when hundreds of delegates voted for him at the Republican State Convention last month in Novi. “I want to thank all the delegates who trust me to bring balance and financial integrity to Wayne State University.”

With aggregate student debt at more than $1 trillion nationwide, Jasti is focused on addressing this crushing load that is holding back students for attaining higher education.

Jasti believes in the value of cutting costs in certain areas of Wayne State’s budget and reallocating that money to more effectively benefit the student population.

He said he plans to be a strong advocate for Wayne State in Lansing to ensure that students receive the proper levels of state funding to help control rising tuition costs.

Jasti also supports a strong focus to increase graduation rates, which will help attract more talented professors and research scientists to the institution. Jasti believes that the current Democrat-controlled Board has not done enough to address declining student graduation.

Jasti, a Wayne State graduate, and a University of Chicago MBA, has extensive experience in the financial industry, including his experience of working for the Federal Reserve. As a local entrepreneur, he founded a business-oriented community bank (Lotus) in Novi in 2007 by raising $14 million from investors. Under his guidance and leadership from 2008 to 2009, his bank lent more than $55 million to small businesses, which helped to create and to retain hundreds of jobs in local communities during the great financial crisis.

If elected, Jasti says he will bring balance and a “business focus” to Wayne State’s Board of Governors. Jasti’s feels his financial experience will help to analyze major university investments, as well as achieve cost reductions by streamlining processes, restructuring organizations and raising revenues – without compromising education quality.

Jasti holds an accounting degree from Wayne State University and an MBA from University of Chicago. He currently resides in West Bloomfield with his wife, Sree Jasti. They have two daughters, ages 24 and 17.
